AFRICA AND SPAIN TOGETHER IN A BULLFIGHT RING FOR VAWK SPRING/SUMMER 2011 Sunny Fong of VAWK presents Toro Safari for at the AGO

Merging Africa and Spain into a richly textured collection, designer Sunny Fong presents his Spring/Summer 2011 collection, Toro Safari, at The Art Gallery of Ontario’s (AGO) Walker’s Court on Monday October 18th 2010 at 1PM.

“The collection is inspired by Africa and Spain caught together in a bullfighting ring,” say VAWK Creative Director Sunny Fong. “I was researching Spain for inspiration for this collection, but then I saw Wangechi Mutu’s collage art exhibit at the AGO and Peter Beard’s book of diaries. I was convinced to bring my ideas of Spain together with those of Africa in Toro Safari.”

To be sold exclusively at the Room at The Bay Queen Street, VAWK’s latest collection is simultaneously feminine and ferocious with fringe, leather, studs, croc, silk and sequins. The palette consists of nudes, browns, gunmetal, cheetah and a moment of colour.

On the first day of Toronto’s LG Fashion Week, 200 of Canada’s top fashion media and celebrity VIPs will view the luxurious collection from an intimate viewpoint on the show floor. In October 2009, VAWK became the first Canadian fashion show to be streamed live.

VAWK would like to thank the AGO, L’Oreal Paris, 9th Sphere, Rowenta and smartwater for their generous support.
