Autumn Winter 2012

Sci-Fi Samurai

TORONTO, February 27, 2012—Canadian luxury women’s wear label VAWK proudly presents ‘Sci-Fi Samurai Autumn/Winter 2012’ on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 4:00p.m. at David Pecaut Square. The collection marks Creative Director, Sunny Fong’s third on-site installation and partnership with the Fashion Design Council of Canada for Toronto Fashion Week.

‘Sci-Fi Samurai’ explores the idea of “the uniform” in Japanese culture and science fiction. The two themes have been woven together and modernized through cut, tailoring and detailing in what Fong calls a capsule collection. “I wanted to get back to what I started with, a detailed, extremely focused collection. I didn’t want to dilute the collection with quantity; I wanted to make sure each piece was special and perfect in my eyes.” The ready-to-wear collection consists of dresses, jackets and key outwear all masterfully handcrafted with the attention to detail synonymous with the label.

This season also marks the debut of the new sister collection, VAWKKIN, to immediately follow the VAWK showing. Inspired by menswear with feminine touches and targeting the young professional female, the new collection consists of versatile pieces for work or the weekend at a more attainable price point. On his reasoning behind the line Fong notes, “I wanted to design pieces for this collection that would build a wardrobe. The demand for a more accessible line has been around since I re-launched VAWK; I really listen to feed back from those who love my work. This collection was designed with them in mind.”
